This unit and its novel, Persepolis, often lines up well with the study of Colonialism/Imperialism in I&S. It can easily fit in an IDU with not only I&S but also Art. In my experience, often the I&S teachers would allow Phase 1-4 English B students to turn in their graphic novels from this unit in lieu of research papers for their class. Through this unit students will learn the conventions of writing graphic novels and put their new understanding to work by creating their own stories exploring their chosen historic location.
